TOILE

'Featuring the subjects of the Observational Series, 'Toile' furthers the artist's investigation into the language between art and commodity through re-positioning discarded items of clothing within a design based context.

A romantic notion taking the overlooked fragments full circle from material, to paper, and back to their material origin once more. Whilst providing an acknowledging nod towards the traditional format and style of French toile, a popular mode of decorative pattern originating from the 18th century. This narrative, fueling associations with luxury and status, seeks to bestow prominence upon the discarded fragments whilst subsequently bringing into question systems of both production and disposal. Fore-fronting the use value of the objects within our lives as well as the relationships we form with them as consumers.'
