'The application of the artist's illustrative designs is an ongoing area of exploration, furthered through employment of techniques such as screen-printing, within a textiles and design context. Employing processes such as poly-chromatic, devoré and discharge printing, which seek to extend and transform the notion of drawing.'

 

Obsolescence Drawing

'Inspired by the symbolism of traditional Vanitas artworks, the original illustration plays upon the futility of worldly goods and pleasures in the inevitability of death. Whilst more explicit representations of consumerism and waste evoke questions concerning responsibility and consequence, highlighting what is present and what will always be present. Resistance of contemporary culture’s refusal to acknowledge decay, seeking to draw our attention towards material culture's impermanence.


The prints in question are comprised of six individually hand-painted layers, which overlap in key areas to form an expanded, multi-coloured palette, encompassing a rich array of variable tones. The spontaneous and frankly unpredictable aspects of this process resist the controlled and systematized modes of production, championed by traditional modes of screen-printing,  to encourage a fluid and unrestrained approach towards re-production. One which the artist aligns closer towards painting within the expanded field, with the unique stand-alone pieces unable to be reproduced exactly.'

'Informed by unnatural modifications to the landscape as a result of anthropogenic activity: Abnormalities positions the Bengal Tiger within a manipulated landscape to stress the uncertain future of the species due to environmental issues such as deforestation.

Measuring at 80 cm x 60 cm, each unique print is comprised of five individually hand-painted layers, unparalleled in existence. With a range of materials including silk habotai and viscose, which capture the intricate detail of the original illustrative design'
